The Royal Family has already had a shake-up in their titles and roles following the passing of the late Queen in 2022 and the accession of King Charles.

Title updates and changes in regimental responsibilities spell major adjustments in the new reign, with King Charles officially being crowned on 6 May 2023.

One of the biggest shifts involved Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales, as they've had significant changes in their ceremonial military positions.

Both were handed their very own Colonelcies by The King - Camilla has taken up the mantle of the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards and Kate stepped into Prince William's shoes as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

This year's Trooping the Colour parade will take place on Saturday, 15 June, with Queen Camilla and Kate continuing their roles as Colonels of two out of the six regiments of the Foot Guards, however, it is not yet known if Kate will make an appearance at the event following her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

On Saturday, 8 June, Kate, 42, broke her silence on missing the Colonel's Review rehearsal for the Trooping the Colour, which took place that day, in a heartfelt letter.

Kate was instead be replaced by Lieutenant General James Bucknall at the Colonel's Review, which is the official rehearsal for Trooping The Colour, scheduled to take place on 15 June. The Irish Guards shared a photograph of the letter Kate penned to them on their official X account.

The letter reads: "I wanted to write to let you know how proud I am of the entire regiment ahead of the Colonel's Review and Trooping the Colour. I appreciate everyone Trooping this year has been practising for months, and dedicating many hours to ensure their uniforms and drill are immaculate.

"Being your Colonel remains a great honour, and I am very sorry that I am unable to take the salute at this year's Colonel Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however, I do hope I can represent you all again soon. Please send my very best wishes and good luck to all involved."

Kate finished the letter by handwriting the Irish Guards' motto Quis Separabit, which means 'Who shall separate us?' and signs it 'Colonel Catherine'.

Camilla's acceptance of Prince Andrew's previous role as the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards follows tradition - the position is typically held by the monarch's consort.

Andrew was deprived of all his military associations by the late Queen, causing his Colonel of the Grenadier Guards position to remain "in abeyance" until a decision could be made.

The Duke of York, who previously served in the Falklands War, took over as colonel from his father, the Duke of Edinburgh, in 2017. However, a source revealed to The Sun: "There have been many nails in the Duke of York's coffin and any deeply-desired wish to return to public duty but this is, without doubt, the final of final nails."

In another significant change, The Princess of Wales became the new Colonel of the Irish Guards in March 2023, taking over from Prince William, who had held the position since 2011. He stepped into the role of Colonel of the Welsh Guards, succeeding his father.

Trooping the Colour marks the official birthday celebration of the monarch, with King Charles' actual birthday being on 14 November. It will feature 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians parading down The Mall and at Horse Guards Parade. Following the parade, the Royal Family will gather at Buckingham Palace to view an RAF flypast from the balcony.
