Twilight fans, sink your teeth into this: A new adaption of the vampire romance series is in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the vampire saga based on Stephanie Meyer's books is the latest film series to get a TV reboot, with production said to be in the early stages at Lionsgate Television.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond writer Sinead Daly is currently attached to the project and will deal with the scriptwriting as well as determining the potential angle that the new series will take.

Meyer is also expected to be working on the project in some capacity.

Lionsgate was previously behind the books' film adaptions Twilight (2008), New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010) and Breaking Dawn Part One (2011) and Part Two (2012).

Starring Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, the franchise was a massive commercial success, with the five films grossing over $3.4 billion worldwide in total.

Meyer has since written two further books to accompany the saga: Midnight Sun, which follows the story from vampire Edward Cullen's point of view, and Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, which swaps Edward and Bella's genders to tell the story of Edythe Cullen and Beaufort Swan.

Despite renewed interest in the Twilight franchise, it seems unlikely that any of the original films' cast will be returning for the project.

Several actors haven't looked back fondly on their time in the series, with Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick (who played Bella's friend Jessica) even going as far as comparing filming to a "hostage situation".

"I just remember being so cold and miserable," she told Vanity Fair back in 2020.

"There was something about it that was like when you go through some trauma event... like a hostage situation, and you're bonded for life."
