I Tried Kristin Chenoweth’s 3-Ingredient Crinkle Cookie Recipe
Whether you genuinely believe Wicked is pure magic or have no clue what Shiz University is, the film’s influence and popularity is undeniable. I fall into the first camp; I’m constantly amazed by the chemistry between Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, both on and off set. If you’re a true fan of the movie, you know Kristin Chenoweth was the original Glinda on Broadway — and if you’re a tiny bit nosey like me, you’re probably keeping tabs on her reaction to the remake.
In between watching interviews and red carpet appearances, I recently came across an Instagram post of Chenoweth baking adorable pink crinkle cookies just in time for the holidays (and perhaps a festive treat to sneak into theaters to watch the musical?).
Surprisingly, these strawberry cookies require just three kitchen staples (one of which is boxed cake mix!). I decided to give them a try. Here’s how it went.

How to Make Kristin Chenoweth’s Crinkle Cookies
First, preheat your oven to 350ºF. In a large bowl, combine one 15.25-ounce box of cake mix (Chenoweth prefers strawberry- or lemon-flavored boxed cake mix) with eight ounces of Cool Whip. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until thoroughly combined (the dough will be sticky!).
Next, use a spoon or an ice cream scoop to form tablespoon-sized dough balls. Roll the dough balls in powdered sugar to coat them, and then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the cookies for eight to 10 minutes.
Once finished, remove the cookies from the oven and let them continue to bake on the warm cookie sheet. Allow the cookies to cool completely before serving.
My Honest Review of Kristin Chenoweth’s Crinkle Cookie Recipe
Kristin Chenoweth’s strawberry crinkle cookies are very chewy and tender, filled with fruity and sweet flavors. They are so soft that they break apart easily, and the caramelized edges (my favorite part) were the ideal texture. But their main appeal is how incredibly easy they are to make. With just three ingredients — strawberry-flavored boxed cake mix, Cool Whip, and powdered sugar — this recipe comes together in minutes.
I can easily imagine pulling out this recipe to bake with my younger relatives who probably don’t have the patience to measure out a bunch of ingredients, but I’m sure they would be thrilled to dump pink cake mix into a bowl and stir it together with fluffy Cool Whip.
The trick of dipping the cookie dough balls into powdered sugar is brilliant, as it gives the cookies a crackled texture that makes them look professionally made. If you’re celebrating the Wicked release, these team-Glinda-inspired cookies are the perfect treat to serve. And if you’re more of an Elphaba fan, you can always use green cake mix or add a few drops of food coloring.
Tips for Making Kristin Chenoweth’s Crinkle Cookie Recipe
Chill the dough before baking. The dough in this recipe is naturally tacky due to the Cool Whip mixed into the batter. We recommend chilling the dough in the fridge for at least an hour to prevent it from sticking to your hands when rolling. This will also help solidify the fat (in this case, the Cool Whip), which will slow the spreading of the cookies during baking.
Swap the boxed cake mix flavor. While Chenoweth sticks to strawberry- and lemon-flavored boxed cake mixes, you can easily experiment with others. For a brownie-like taste, try using a Devil’s Food variety, or snag a pack of Funfetti to create a rainbow effect in your cookies.
Sprinkle with flaky sea salt. These boxed cake mix crinkle cookies are definitely for dessert-lovers, but try sprinkling flaky sea salt on top to balance their sweetness.
