'I tried £10 tool to stop face sagging – people can't get over my real age'
As we age, many of us look for ways to maintain a youthful appearance.
So when a TikTok creator shared how she stays looking so glowing and lovely, people were quick to take notes! In a video, the beauty guru explained she'd been using a couple of tools to stop sagging skin.
She said: “Stop scrolling if you’re getting older and worrying about your face sagging. I recently turned 48, yeah I know I’m getting old. Face sagging is not something that I have ever really thought about before, it’s only very recently when I started thinking about it. I have been using this gua sha tool on my face for some time now.”

So what is the secret to her success? Apparently, gua sha can be a total game-changer. You can do this with your hands – or buy a gua sha microcurrent device for around £10.
She explained: “I heard about this device which has got three different lights. Blue is for cleaning, the green is for pigmentation and discolouration and the infrared is for collagen.
“I saw it and I was like ‘do you know what, why not try it?’ and I’ve had it for what a couple of weeks now and for the first time that I used it I didn’t even consider that my face could be sagging but when I started running it across my face you could see that one side of my face, the face I had treated, was higher than the side of the face I hadn’t treated which freaked me out.
“I have been using it probably every other day. It feels really good, it’s relaxing. I don’t know if it’s actually doing anything or that effect is probably temporary but either way it makes me feel better and it’s literally £10.”
The TikTok video has garnered more than 3,400 likes and plenty of positive comments. One user said: “Sorry what? You don’t look a day over 25.” And another added: “Nope she said 28! I think I heard 28. You be ageing like fine wine.”
So does gua sha actually work?
Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese healing practice that involves using a smooth-edged tool, typically made of jade, quartz, or bone, to scrape the skin in a specific manner. This technique is thought to promote better circulation, reduce inflammation, and facilitate healing by encouraging the flow of "qi" or energy in the body.
In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that gua sha can help balance energy flow, remove toxins, and reduce stagnation in the body. Many practitioners claim it can relieve muscle tension and pain, improve circulation, reduce puffiness, and enhance overall well-being.
While some studies suggest gua sha may help with certain conditions such as chronic neck pain or musculoskeletal issues, comprehensive research is limited. The evidence supporting its effectiveness compared to other treatments is not robust.
Even though many say it's worked great for them – and there's lots of anecdotal evidence to support the benefits – more research needs to be done into the topic. Manage your expectations and consult with a healthcare provider if you have specific health concerns.
