Trader Joe’s Viral $3 Mini Totes Are Back — but Several Stores Are Already Sold Out After 1 Day
The limited bags were first introduced in February
Trader Joe’s mini tote bags are back in stock — if you can find them.
The limited-time product, which retail for just $2.99, incited a frenzy when they were first introduced in February — and continue to do so today. A Trader Joe’s representative tells PEOPLE that the totes were re-released on Sept. 18, but are “already sold out in many stores” after just one day.
“These totes are the same colors (blue, red, yellow, green) and price ($2.99) as the previous release. The totes are a limited product rather than an everyday product at this time,” the representative added.
Given their high demand, the totes may have purchasing limits at certain stores. One video on TikTok shows a five-bag limit.
“Each neighborhood Trader Joe’s makes their own merchandising decisions about purchasing limits,” the representative said.
Quantity parameters come after the February craze when they initially were released. Once many locations sold out, they were being listed on eBay for exorbitant prices. One listing for a set of all four colors asked for nearly $1,000.
At the time, a Trader Joe’s representative responded to the steep price surging in a statement to PEOPLE.
“Our Mini Canvas Tote Bags certainly sold more quickly than we anticipated. Before we had the opportunity to promote them in any way, customers across the country found them at their neighborhood Trader Joe’s,” said the spokesperson. “Our customers, in our stores, are our focus; we do not endorse the re-sale of any of our products, anywhere.”

This time around, several TikTok videos show patrons grabbing mini totes in a more organized manner as employees help hand them out. One user, @erica_grace1 shared a TikTok featuring a sign at her local Trader Joe’s that had a purchase limit of four.
Another user, @gen.datu praised her local grocer for being “so organized.”
In the comments of her video, she shared that her husband was the 20th person in line to snag a mini tote bag after arriving at 5:30 a.m.
Others said there wasn’t a line at their local stores at all, including one commenter on her post, who wrote, “A line 😯! We have it at my local Trader Joe’s and nobody have to line up for it? I guess we all have it already 😅”
