The end of the year isn't just reserved for holiday festivities. It's also a time of reflection—and what a year it was for the world of food. There were unforgettable new recipes, viral trends that took over the internet, and fast food collaborations we won't soon forget.

If you don't believe us, check out our top 10 most viral videos of the year, all made by culinary producer Nicole McLaughlin. We posted hundreds of videos that got millions of views to our Instagram and TikTok accounts—these are the best of the best.

10. Blooming Onion

Do you love a Blooming Onion as much as us? Outback Steakhouse is famous for their crowd-pleasing appetizer, but now you can make it at home with little effort. Instead of a deep fryer, Nicole used her trusty air fryer to achieve perfect crispiness.

9. Chicken Piccata Meatballs

"This is one of the best things I've made in a long time," says Nicole McLaughlin.

These Chicken Piccata Meatballs have all the makings of a wonderful recipe: cheese, bread crumbs, cream, capers, butter, and many more seasonings, which result in a tender and indulgent meatball you don't see everyday. Serve it over pasta or offer it up as an appetizer at your next party.

8. Wet Wet Sauce

The viral Wet Wet Sauce is a chili oil-inspired dip that swept across the internet this year. Nicole tried it out and loved it. Chili oil is not a new sauce by any means, but this version (originally made by TikToker Cassie Yeung) is tangier, sweeter, and thicker, creating the perfect umami experience. It's the perfect upgrade for dumplings.

7. Mock Apple Pie

What is a Mock Apple Pie? It is a classic pie dupe, but Ritz Crackers are the star of the show. That's right, the buttery, salty cracker becomes the filling for this pie with the help of a little sugar, cream of tartar, water, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Plus, it's ready in under and hour.

6. Savory S'mores

Cheese and crackers is a pairing as old as time—and there are still innovative ways to make old ideas new again. Welcome Savory S'mores, a trend that combined all the fun of preparing s'mores with the savory ingredients of crackers and cheese.

5. Freezer Popcorn

Our fifth most viral video of the year, topping over 12 million views, surprised us all. Does frozen popcorn taste better than its unfrozen counterpart? Yes!

"Frozen popcorn does indeed taste better," says Nicole. "It is slightly crunchier because I guess it's slightly frozen, but the salt factor punches harder on this frozen popcorn." Try it yourself and see what you think.

3. Crispy Potato Salad

Potato salads never get old, and if you haven't tried this Crispy Herb Smashed Potato Salad, you need to. The potatoes are smashed, seasoned, then fried and chopped to create a wonderful, crunchy texture. And this recipe is chock-full of flavor thanks to fresh dill, scallions, and parsley (plus a hefty dose of mayonnaise, sour cream, and mustard).

2. Walking S'mores

Taking our second spot for the year, this trend follows in the footsteps of the Walking Taco or the Walking Chili Cheese Dog. Rather than preparing and eating s'mores with your hands, cook your marshmallows as normal, but don't sandwich them between two graham crackers. Transfer them to a bag of your favorite cookies, like Oreos, Nutter Butters, or Vanilla Wafers, along with your favorite chocolate. The result is a delicious s'mores creation without the sticky fingers.
