Timothée Chalamet has grown a barely-there moustache – and fans are really not sure about it.

It had seemed the 24-year-old star of ‘Call Me By Your Name’, ‘Beautiful Boy’, ‘Lady Bird’ and ‘Little Women’ could do no wrong.

But Hollywood’s man of the moment has polarised fans by growing a new moustache, together with a subtle goatee.

Twitter users had a field day when the star revealed his new facial hair at the 2020 National Board Of Review Gala in New York City.

Some have suggested it made him look like a “weird trench-coat wearing 16 year old”, while others are heavily criticising the look.

Others have it in for the accompanying goatee, which has been dubbed “troubling”.

But not all is lost – some have defended the look.

There is an, admittedly much smaller, fanbase for the facial hair who found it surprisingly attractive, calling it “tiny but cute”.

As for the rationale behind the moustache and goatee combo, it’s possibly in aid of Chalamet’s upcoming role playing a young Bob Dylan in a new drama, which is currently untitled.

Chalamet rather sweetly wore a T-shirt made by a 19-year-old fan, Avery Warsaw, for the occasion.

The white T-shirt featured an embroidered, rainbow-coloured peace sign design. According to Page Six, Warsaw passed it to Chalamet’s agent at a December screening of ‘Little Women’.

He styled it worn underneath a cream Stella McCartney suit which featured contrasting black lapels.

But clearly, for many it was the small tufts of hair on Chalamet’s face that did all the talking on the red carpet.
