According to TikTok, there's a new DIY moisturizer hack making waves as the must-try beauty trend of the moment.

The two-step process involves turning your concealer into a tinted moisturizer by mixing your favourite concealer with your everyday moisturizer to create the perfect base. Seems simple enough, so we're diving into the trend and putting it to the test to see if this summer makeup hack is actually worth the hype.

DIY tinted moisturizer hack

This 2 minute DIY tinted moisturizer hack is taking over TikTok. In order to put this hack to the test, beauty guru Sarah Wolak took to her platform to try out the trend after watching Tarte Cosmetics tackle the hack in the brand's original TikTok video.

As demonstrated in both videos, this hack only requires two products — concealer and moisturizer. Wolak walks us through her interpretation of the hack, in which she highlights some of her go-to products along the way.

She starts by applying a light layer of the DIOR Backstage Concealer onto her face as the base of the DIY tinted moisturizer.

However, Wolak then puts her own unique twist on the process by adding a second layer of the Tarte Shape Tape Glow Wand in a slightly deeper shade to add a bit of warmth to her complexion.

After applying both concealers, she takes some of the SUPERGOOP! Every. Single. Face. Watery Lotion SPF 50 and uses her hands to blend everything together.

As she's blending, she admits that it "feels weird at first," but the end result has Wolak — and us! — impressed as the combination of concealer and moisturizer ensures both coverage and all-day hydration.

She ends the video by saying, "Everyone needs to try out this hack because it's one of the most beautiful bases I've ever done."

Putting it to the test

Intrigued by Wolak's experience, I wanted to put this hack to the test myself to see how well it would work on my combination skin.

I mixed the Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer with my everyday moisturizer, the Summer Fridays Cloud Dew Oil-Free Gel Cream Moisturizer, and used my hands to blend everything together.

I can attest to Wolak's remark that blending everything out felt a little weird (the concealer in particular felt pretty thick), but after a few seconds of mixing it together using circular hand motions, everything had blended out pretty seamlessly.

I love how simple and easy it was to create a tinted moisturizer using two products that I reach for all the time. This won't be my everyday hack, but if I ever forget, or run out of my go-to face product, I know exactly what to do to achieve a flawless complexion.

What others are saying

Although commenters on Wolak's video love the thought behind DIY tinted moisturizer, a few users mentioned that if you mix sunscreen products with other products, it makes the sunscreen "moot."

In order to adjust this hack to ensure your SPF products stay effective, apply your sunscreen products first, and then follow suit with the items used in the DIY hack.

One user also questioned whether or not this DIY tinted moisturizer hack would work with a water-based moisturizer. As a result, it may require some trial and error in case you encounter some product separation.

All in all, the majority of users love the outcome, with one stating that the results from the video look "gorgeous."

Verdict

If you need a tinted moisturizer in a pinch, then this is the hack for you as the super simple routine is effortless and only requires two products.

The combination of coverage from the concealer along with the hydrating, nourishing properties of the moisturizer ensures your skin looks and feels its best all day long. However, just be sure to apply your SPF first before diving into this DIY tinted-moisturizer hack to ensure your skin stays protected.

From personal experience, this hack not only works but is a definite must-try!
