This Singaporean Jewellery Also Repels Mosquitoes

In the latest instalment of things we didn’t know existed but now totally want, a Singaporean jewellery line has invented jewellery that not only looks pretty, but repels mosquitoes.

The (suitably-named) brand By Invite Only has released a new line of jade-inspired pieces which it claims will keep mozzies at bay.

The Yu Ahn collection is made up of two necklaces and a bracelet which feature hollow pendants which hold refillable citronella balls.

Citronella oil is safe, non-toxic and found in plenty of off-the-counter mosquito repellents. It’s particularly popular at the moment as it repels

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes - which spread degnue fever and carry the Zika virus.

This is particularly relevant for Singapore right now, which is facing a Zika virus outbreak; stores are apparently selling out of mosquito repellent fast.

According to the brand’s Instagram, their jewellery is selling similarly quickly, though they’re working to stock up again.

By Invite Only founder Trixie Khong told Mashable: “We realised that people don’t want to bring around mosquito repellent all the time, even though mosquito-borne diseases are a problem in Singapore.

“So as a jewellery designer, we decided to combine the concept of safety with fashion.”
