Fancy eating more healthily without going the whole Deliciously Ella? Who doesn’t? Well, in excellent news of the day, there is now a plate that sucks up the excess calories from every meal by absorbing the grease.

The pretty darned fantastic invention is the result of a collaboration between the Thai government’s health board and advertising agency BBDO Bangkok, who created the ‘AbsorbPlate’ in a bid to combat high rates of obesity in Thailand thanks to all the grease and oil that are part of a typical Thai diet.

It works a bit like a sponge, allowing grease to settle in 500 tiny holes. Makers say the plates are capable of absorbing up to 7ml of oil from your food, meaning a reduction of 30 calories per plate. Which may not sound like a lot, but heck it’s something.

And the best thing? It could make that pesky kitchen roll blotting a thing of the past. Winning!

The AbsorbPlate is currently still in the concept stages so there’s no official launch date yet. But once they’re available for purchase, we’ll be ditching our plain white plates from Ikea and stocking up.
