This Is How Long Sex Should *Actually* Last

Think about it: How long should a sex session last? Don’t answer with what you think you’re meant to say (i.e. all night long), but how long you actually find enjoyable.

Admit it - hours is way too long. But 20 seconds is, erm, not quite long enough.

If you’re still undecided, never fear - experts now have the answer. And that’s between three and thirteen minutes.

Yep, not one full working day, as we might have thought.

Researchers from Penn State Erie, Pennsylvania surveyed sex therapists from around the US and Canada, and got them to come up with several categories for the optimum time frame from penetration to ejaculation.

This is what they are:

Too short: 1-2 minutes
Adequate: 3-7 minutes
Desirable: 7-13 minutes
Too long: 10-30 minutes

Surprised? Most people will be, because we often get led astray by ridiculously long sex scenes in movies and assume that that’s the norm.

The researchers told Penn State News: “A man’s or woman’s interpretation of his or her sexual functioning as well as the partner’s relies on personal beliefs developed in part from society’s messages, formal and informal.

"Unfortunately, today’s popular culture has reinforced stereotypes about sexual activity. Many men and women seem to believe the fantasy model of large penises, rock-hard erections and all-night-long intercourse.”

The real message here? Everybody’s different, so feel free to get jiggy with it for whatever length of time does it for you.
