Back in the olden days (aka, before the 2010s) talking about any cosmetic work or procedures you'd had done was the ultimate taboo. But the pendulum has now very much swung the other way, which has consequentially opened up the floodgates to a plethora of new cosmetic treatments.
One of the latest trending treatments to take social media by storm is the 'lip flip'. Women are taking to platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to tout the wonders of this minimally invasive procedure - which endows the lips with a fuller, plumper look, without making them look unnatural.
But what exactly is a lip flip, how does it differ from outright lip filler, and what are the pros and cons of getting it? Read on for some professional before and after shots of lip flips, too.
What is a lip flip?
A lip flip involves tiny injections of botulinum toxin around the border of the lips to create a little eversion of the lip which gives more lip show,' explains aesthetic doctor, Dr Sophie Shotter.
How long does a lip flip last?
A lip lasts around 3 months. However, Dr Shotter adds, because it doesn’t have much longevity around the mouth, these treatments don’t last as well as in other areas. ·
Pros
It’s a nice way to test if you suit a little more lip volume without committing to filler; it’s very minimally invasive.
Cons
It doesn’t last very long
The botulinum toxin can affect your ability to whistle or to suck on straws for example.
Is there anyone who shouldn't get a lip flip?
'I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to musicians or singers who need the full function and strength of the lip. Even people with jobs like dog walking were whistling could be very important,' explains Dr Shotter.
