One of our greatest fears in life is to have our iPhone fall out of our back pocket. It’s often followed by our hearts sinking at the sight of a cracked screen or trying to decide what’s the best way to fish it out of the toilet.

It’s at this exact moment we’ve all thought, “someone HAS to invent something to stop this happening”.

Well, now our wishes have been answered. Japanese retailer Muji have released a new line of jeans that come with a sixth pocket, specifically designed for your smartphone. GENIUS, right?

On first hearing about the invention we couldn’t quite decide whether this was the most ridiculous idea ever, or if we wanted to kiss whoever designed it. So, naturally we had to try them out.

We started to feel a lot more optimistic when we discovered the jeans come in five styles and four colours, whoever said safety couldn’t also be stylish? Plus, retailing at only £29.95, that’s a bargain price to solve one of our life’s biggest problems.

The sixth pocket is also so discreet we had trouble locating it. However, when we finally did we were pleasantly surprised at how well our iPhone fitted, sliding right down and stopping any hazardous phone protruding from pocket action.

Then came the true test. Throughout the day we did our usual tasks, just with slightly more dramatic sitting down and standing up movements than usual. And just like a loyal puppy the phone stayed right by our side all day.

Although this is indeed a development in iPhone safety, at the end of the day it is just another pocket. Unless this pocket is going to be chained, barbed wired and super glued together, we all know stuff happens.

So, is it going to 100% stop us dropping our phone down the toilet? No, it is not. However, it may make you breathe a sigh of relief next time you hear an iPhone fall to the floor, only to realise yours is still in your sixth pocket.
