In the cutest coincidence ever two babies called Romeo and Juliet were born in adjoining hospital rooms just hours apart.

The new mums had never met before and both had unwittingly chosen the names of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers earlier in their pregnancies.

Morgan and Edwin Hernandez’s baby boy, Romeo, was born at Blufton Hospital in South Carolina on Saturday 18 March. Then just 18 hours and eight minutes later, in the next room, Christiana Shifflett and her husband Allan welcomed their baby daughter, Juliet.

Hospital staff blown away by the twist of fate couldn’t resist introducing the babies to each other and the whole sweet story of their first meeting was shared to Facebook page Love What Matters by baby photographer Cassie Clayshulte, earlier this week.

“Sunday afternoon in Bluffton, South Carolina at 2:06pm, Morgan and Edwin Hernandez welcomed their baby into the world and named him Romeo,” the image of the babies’ first meeting was captioned.

“18 hours and 8 minutes later, in the next room, Christiana and Allan Shifflett welcomed a baby girl and named her… Juliet! Both parents had picked these names out early on in their pregnancies and neither couple knew each other until they met today! Both babies have full heads of hair and already make the cutest couple!”

Since posting the image has quickly gone viral clocking up over 66K reactions, over 6K shares and hundreds of comments from people fascinated by the sweet story.

“What a coincidence! I love it!! Who knows? Stranger things have happened and maybe one day they will be Romeo and Juliet Hernandez!” one woman wrote.

“Omg how cute!!! I love modern day love stories!! Well, who knows if this will turn into one but what a story to tell them when they get older!!!” another women added.

Other users were encouraged to share stories about their own birth coincidences.

“This is soo adorable!!! My husband & I were born in the same hospital same day, our parents roommates his translated for mine after delivery…his father said maybe they will meet each other again in the future & 18 years later found each other again & found out we were those same babies lol we got married it’s been 9 years now,” one woman shared.

“We named our daughter Evie and we had a couple in the room with us who named their son Adam. Not exactly the same but we had a chuckle,” another user wrote.
