Call The Midwife star Jenny Agutter is reprising her role in The Railway Children, over 50 years since the original was released.

Joining her in a sequel to what's considered to be one of the most well-loved family films of all time will be Sheridan Smith (Cilla, The Moorside) and Tom Courtenay (Unforgotten). A new generation of 'Railway Children' will also star, and on board to direct is the BAFTA-winning Morgan Matthews.

At 18 years old, Jenny played Bobbie in the original. She'll step back into those shoes several decades later during World War 2, where the story resumes.

In another nod to the 1970 original, parts of The Railway Children Return will be shot in and around key locations from the original film. They include Oakworth Station, Haworth, and The Bronte Parsonage. Plus, the iconic heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway from the original film will also have a starring role.

Filming begins in the UK this month (May 2021). A synopsis of what to expect reveals: "Inspired by one of the most beloved British family films of all time, The Railway Children Return is an enchanting adventure for a new generation bringing a contemporary sensibility to a classic story and combining British cast with stunning locations.

"The Railway Children Return will take audiences on an exciting and heart-warming journey, in which a group of children are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during World War 2, where they encounter a young soldier, who like them, is far away from home…"

The Railway Children by E Nesbit, which the film was based on, was first published in 1906.
