The Queen reveals impressive Buckingham Palace garden as it blooms for spring

During lockdown, having outdoor space adjacent to, or near, your home has become cherished for understandable reasons – and particularly now the UK is entering a warmer season.

So it is unsurprising that royals fans have been left delighted after the Queen, who has spent the pandemic at Windsor Castle, gave an insight into her impressive garden at her London residence, Buckingham Palace.

In an Instagram post, shared yesterday to celebrate the first day of spring, a carousel of pictures showed Her Majesty's rather extensive back yard in full bloom.

The images were accompanied by a caption that read: "The garden at The Queen’s London residence sees much change over the course of a year.

"Despite its urban location, the garden is home to a remarkable array of flora and fauna."

The palace grounds span around 42 acres and feature a large lake and wildflower meadows.

Since 1993, the public has been allowed to visit the garden, as well as 19 of the palace's state rooms, between July and August – however, this has been paused during the pandemic.

In normal times, the grounds also play host to the Queen's series of afternoon garden parties, during which the 94-year-old monarch hosts a total of more than 30,000 guests.

The post was popular with social media users who left more than 154,000 'likes', with many describing the garden as "beautiful".

Prince Charles also celebrated the spring equinox by posing for a picture with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, in the grounds of Highgrove, his country residence in Gloucestershire.

The caption to the image, also posted to Instagram, read: "Wishing you a happy and healthy first day of Spring."

Marking another occasion last Sunday – Mother's Day – the Queen shared a rare photo of herself as a child with her mum, the Queen Mother.
