The Duchess of Cambridge’s Off-the-Shoulder Dress Showed Her Sporty Side
On the third day of the British royal family’s tour of Canada, the Duchess of Cambridge attended a black-tie reception in Victoria, British Columbia. On Monday night, the 35-year-old mother of two, who’s traveling with Prince William and their son, Prince George, and daughter, Princess Charlotte, paid tribute to her host nation in a red dress from English designer Preen featuring a draped bodice and full midi skirt. The $1,715 piece, which is already sold out online, was nipped at the waist, accentuating her figure, and the off-the-shoulder silhouette served to highlight her incredibly toned arms.
It’s obvious that Kate is physically fit, and not just by the appearance of her body. Just hours before the event at Government House, she was trekking through the Great Bear Rainforest.
To do so, she wore a safari jacket that retails for $780, a gingham blue-and-white checkered button-down from Topshop, a blue sweater, and her favorite Penelope Chilvers boots, which she has owned for more than a decade.
Kate actually wore the $618 brown leather boots when she hiked to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery during a visit to Bhutan in April. The climb to the sacred site is 10,000 feet above sea level and situated on a cliff face. While Prince William admitted at the time it was “quite tough on the way up,” his wife posed for pictures at the top without a hair out of place (seriously, she kept her hair down the entire time).
Hiking isn’t the Duchess of Cambridge’s only form of exercise. In addition to chasing after her young kids on the Kensington Palace grounds and carrying them around (which, any mom can tell you, is definitely a workout), she’s a fan of a wide variety of sports.
For one, the Duchess is an avid skier. In March, the royal family went on vacation to the French Alps, a spot the couple has frequented many times throughout their years together, even making their first appearance to the public on the slopes.
Additionally, she’s so adept at cricket that she’s even able to play in wedge-heeled pumps.
The same goes for field hockey, a sport she played as a student. Also, while studying at St. Andrews, she rowed in crew, a sport she kept up with even after graduation.
