Starring on the cover of Prima's November issue is actress Sue Cleaver.

The Coronation Street star explains why she's embracing midlife, pushing herself out of her comfort zone and why she's still a work in progress.

“There are so many people my age who I speak to that are depressed about reaching 60," she says. "You feel like this is the end of the line, that everything goes down from here. And I absolutely don’t feel that way. I just feel like the world really is my oyster now, and there’s so much available out there. There’s so much that you can do.”

Sue opens up to Prima about her identity journey after adoption. “When I was younger, I really struggled with my identity. I felt different. I felt other. My family are my family, my mum is my mum, whether the DNA is involved or not. They are such a big part of me. But a lot of adopted children have this sense that something is a little bit different.”

On learning to worry less, she says: "When you’re in the present moment, you don’t have all those worries, because worry and anxiety are always in the future. Our physical body is never anywhere but in the present moment, but we take ourselves off on these flights of fancy and we can make our experience really miserable from making up thoughts in our heads. It’s about getting back and becoming aware.”

She also explains why its important to her to keep evolving: “I feel much more clear about who I am now. But don’t get me wrong, I’m still a work in progress. I don’t think any of us can sit there and say, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m completely sorted, I’m completely secure about everything.’ That’s just not how life works. But when those sticky thoughts come up, I’m much more likely to be able to see them for what they are, and that’s the difference.”

Sue's new book, which is on sale on 26th September, is aptly called A Work in Progress: “[Writing the book] is not a journey I ever envisaged taking, and I’ve really enjoyed the process," she says. "I just really pushed myself out of my comfort zone. Initially, I was like, ‘Oh, no, I can’t do that.’ This is what the book is about.”
