As the US Presidential election draws ever closer (Nov 8th ICYMI), it seems everyone is having their say on who to back, including style bible, Vogue. In an unprecedented move, the fash mag has offered its unequivocal support to Hillary Clinton.

An article explaining the reason for the endorsement read: “For all the chaos and unpredictability and the sometimes appalling spectacle of this election season, the question of which candidate actually deserves to be president has never been a difficult one.”

“Vogue has no history of political endorsements. Editors in chief have made their opinions known from time to time, but the magazine has never spoken in an election with a single voice. Given the profound stakes of this one, and the history that stands to be made, we feel that should change.”

“Vogue endorses Hillary Clinton for president of the United States.”

The magazine goes on to say that its editors believe that the question of which candidate deserves to become president “has never been a difficult one”.

“We understand that Clinton has not always been a perfect candidate, yet her fierce intelligence and considerable experience are reflected in policies and positions that are clear, sound, and hopeful,” the article continued.

Citing support for Clinton’s policies on immigration, LGBT rights, health care and women’s rights, the magazine also explains that it wants to get behind the historic prospect of electing the first female president.

“It has taken nearly a century to bring us to the brink of a woman leading our country for the first time,” they explained. “Let’s put this election behind us and become the America we want to be: optimistic, forward-looking, and modern.”

Vogue isn’t the only publication to offer an official endorsement of a presidential candidate. Earlier this year Wired offered its backing to Hillary Clinton saying it could see “only one person running for president who can do the job: Hillary Clinton.”

Though there’s no doubt the media support will be appreciated in Camp Clinton, it remains to be seen whether the official endorsement will be transferred into votes.
