Strictly Come Dancing's Nikita Kanda has spoken about her exit from the series, with the star revealing that she suffered an injury before the live show.

The radio presenter, who was partnered with Gorka Márquez, became the second contestant to be eliminated in the 21st series, with the pair losing out to Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima in the dance-off.

The duo appeared opposite Fleur East on It Takes Two to discuss their departure from the show, with Nikita revealing that she suffered an injury in rehearsals prior to Saturday’s live show, which saw her perform as Cher Horowitz from Clueless.

“I’m really sad – I feel quite emotional. It’s been an emotional and fun journey, but I’m so sad that our time got cut short,” she began. “We were like two kids in school, so it was quite fitting we danced to Clueless. I feel like we’d be in detention if we went to school together.

“I had so much fun playing Cher as she’s iconic. I’m a 90s baby so I really took the role on – Gorka helped me each week with my confidence. I even hurt my foot the day before but we powered through – I’ve got a bandage on so it’s not very glamorous underneath all the sparkle.”

Nikita, who previously triumphed in the Week 2 dance-off against Les Dennis and Nancy Xu, spoke further about her final dance and time with Gorka, revealing it was strange to not be back in the training room.

“I’m just sad that we weren’t in training today,” she said. “It felt weird to go back to the radio and not meet Gorka afterwards. I fell in love with training and find myself dancing in the kitchen – it’s in me now. Strictly brings out the emotions but I honestly couldn’t have had a better partner.”

“Thank you for these few weeks together,” added Gorka. “We had an amazing time and I loved it so much – we were laughing and giggling. You are a beautiful human being so never change – cherish the moments we had.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
