Strictly's Katya Jones sends a powerful message to Wynne Evans after first dance off
Strictly Come Dancing's Katya Jones has said that she will not allow her dancing partner Wynne Evans to "lose his spark" following their first dance-off in the competition. On Sunday evening, November 10, BBC Radio Wales presenter Wynne Evans and his partner Katya survived a dramatic dance off against the actor and singer Shayne Ward.
Despite being placed in the dance-off at the start of the show, Wynne was seemingly at ease about entering it. Speaking about how he was feeling, he said: "I’m okay. You know what, I didn’t want to go out week 1, and here we are week 8, so I’m thrilled."
For the dance off, Wynne and Katya performed their Grace Kelly by Mika, while singer and actor Shayne Ward and partner Nancy Xu chose to perform Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. After a stirring performance by both the couples, judges were split between their choices for the better dancing couple, while admitting there were gaps in both performances. Things did not look good for Wynne and Katya as the first two votes by Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse went to Shane and Nancy. However things turned in favour of the Welsh presenter and his partner after Anton Du Beke decided to save them.
The couple will now be heading into their ninth week on the programme, which will take place in Blackpool. Following their first dance-off, Wynne Evans' dancing partner, Katya Jones, took to Instagram to share her thoughts. The post was then shared by the Welsh star himself on his Instagram story.
Addressing their fans, Katya wrote: "You have been so generous with your votes for seven weeks, but I can honestly say we never take them for granted. Although we couldn't have been more happy with our performance on Saturday, with this year's competition being so so strong, we always prepare ourselves for the dance off."
The dancer went on to explain what the experience was like for the couple. She said: "And there it was - the dreaded red light here for the first time ... and oh boy it was a dramatic dance off against the phenomenal Shane and Nancy. We had no idea which way it was going to go, but we survived it!! And yes, it is the hard way, but we are going to Blackpool".
Katya then addressed Wynne Evans and said: "The whole Strictly fun has flashed before our eyes in that moment, but I will not let Wynne lose his spark!! Because that's what makes him unique and that's what we all love about him!
"Wynne you have smashed any expectations already, and unlocked something in you! You truly are turning into a fantastic dancer through your hard work, and I'm so looking forward to see how far can we go now".
Fans were quick to comment on the post, many praising the two for their efforts. One said it was a "fantastic decision" to keep Wynne and Katya in the competition, another said they were "happy" that the couple were going to Blackpool, while another said they were "proud of the both of you".
