Strictly 'spoiler' show promising to expose 'scandals' scheduled for right after launch

Strictly Come Dancing will be put under the spotlight in a new documentary exposing the "secrets, sex and scandals" of the hit BBC celebrity dance show - and Channel 5 have scheduled it to start right after the launch show. The one-off programme, in honour of the popular series' 20th anniversary, will air at 9pm, the exact same time the real thing ends.

The two-hour-long documentary plans to chronicle the show's highs, lows, costumes, competitions and controversies. It will "trace the history of Strictly, from its roots in a quaint old late-night ballroom competition called Come Dancing, via a cult Aussie movie romcom, to the flagship spectacular it has now become".

Through interviews with judges, professional dancers and former celebrity contestants, it will also recall the show's best and worst competitors, explore the "pioneering new ground" it has broken by championing same-sex pairings and those with disabilities, as well as "the high levels of stress and pressure in perfecting those routines".

It will also reportedly take a look at the truth behind the show's so-called and now infamous 'Strictly curse'. It will also feature a segment on the recent controversies which have surrounded the show and prompted the BBC to introduce more safeguarding measures for its stars behind the scenes.

It's set to include "ruined relationships and even the recent allegations of bullying" which rocked the show to its core and led the BBC to act quickly by launching a full investigation.

The BBC has since announced a number of changes to the show's production, including two new welfare producers for professionals and celebrities, training for those working on the production, plus the requirement for a production team member to be present in training room rehearsals "at all times".

It comes after Former Strictly contestants Amanda Abbington, Laura Whitmore and Zara McDermott have all made allegations about their treatment during training.
