Strictly Come Dancing's Shirley Ballas 'to appear on huge rival reality show' following cancer scare
Strictly Come Dancing's Shirley Ballas is said to be set to star in a rival reality TV show after going through a recent cancer scare.
The BBC One show's head judge is rumoured to have signed up to new Netflix launch Bear Hunt, where she is thought to be appearing as one of the contestants alongside the likes of Mel B and Danny Cipriani.
Shirley, 63, had breast cancer checks including three biopsies last week, but shared the good news on Tuesday that her results had come back all clear - and now she is said to be planning to live life to the full by taking on the physically challenging Bear Hunt.
Netflix recently announced the new celebrity reality series, set to be hosted by Bear Grylls and Holly Willoughby, which will see survival expert Bear try to track the group of famous contestants through a Central American jungle.
A source told The Mirror: "Shirley is a fabulous choice, and is impressively fit thanks to years of ballroom dancing.
"She will be able to show off her strength and determination and show Strictly viewers a whole other side to her."
Bear Hunt is due to film throughout May and will be available to stream on Netflix early next year.
The news of Shirley's potential new starring role comes just after she shared some good news about her health following breast cancer checks, which she told fans about on Instagram.
She wrote: "Thank you to you all for your well wishes following my two mammograms, one ultrasound and three biopsies last week. I am feeling blessed to share that my results have come back all clear - there is no cancer present.
"Sharing the picture to my story last week very much triggered my emotions but I feel it's only right for me to share both the highs and the lows of life. If I was able to help just one lady, then sharing my picture was worth it.
"I got my recall while on holiday and I immediately cleared my diary to allow for the appointment. I urge all women to do the same."
Shirley continued: "Please do not put your mammogram, smear test or in fact any appointment off. They really can change your life. Who knows what may have happened if I put mine off? Get booked, get checked, get your body MOT everyone.
"With immense gratitude to friends, family and fans who reached out. I appreciate you more than you know. Love and hugs, Shirley x"
The Strictly head judge had also tagged dancer Amy Dowden in her Instagram Stories where she shared the post again, following Amy's battle with breast cancer over the last year.
Amy, who is hoping to rejoin the Strictly cast later this year, commented: "So pleased for you. Have been worried! Well done for getting the message out there and raising awareness lots of love xxxxx"
OK! has contacted Shirley's reps for comment.
