Shirley Ballas delivers update on cancer scare as she opens up about 'life-changing' tests

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has issued an update to fans after bravely sharing she’d had a cancer scare. During an interview with The Sun, Shirley revealed that she’d had to have three biopsies after discovering a lump found in her breast.

Shirley admitted that she had feared the worst and anxiously awaited the results of her 'life changing' medical tests.

She told The publication: “I’m worried I’ve worked myself to death. It’s been terrifying, to have the needle go in your body to numb it before the biopsy. I feel very emotional. I’m not the same at work at the moment, so I’m teaching, but it’s constantly on my mind.”

But thankfully the TV judge has issued a positive update, as she revealed that ‘no cancer’ has been found. Taking to Instagram she said: “Thank you to you all for your well wishes following my two mammograms, one ultrasound and three biopsies last week.

“I am feeling blessed to share that my results have come back all clear - there is no cancer present. X”

Shirley recently posted an image of a bandage on her chest after her biopsy, as she urged followers not to skip mammograms.

She said: “Urging all women do not miss your mammogram. I went for mine. Ended up going for a second one and a biopsy. Local Anaesthetic Biopsy done. Now waiting for results.”

Shirley then tagged Strictly professional Amy Dowden, who is receiving ongoing treatment following her breast cancer diagnosis.

The star continued: “Amy Dowden you ran through my mind the importance of not putting it off go and get tested. Plus, breast check regularly.”

Amy was delighted to hear her Strictly colleague Shirley’s positive news that her lump was not cancerous. She commented: “So pleased for you. Have been worried! Well done for getting the message out there and raising awareness lots of love.”

Shirley told her followers how getting the tests had been 'life changing' as she added: "I am feeling blessed to share that my results have come back all clear - there is no cancer present.

“Sharing that picture to my story last week very much triggered my emotions but I feel it’s only right for me to share both the highs and lows of life. If I was able to help just one lady then sharing my picture was worth it.”

She continued: “Please don’t put off your mammogram or smear test or, in fact, any appointment. They can really change your life. Who knows what may have happened if I put mine off.”
