Strictly Come Dancing star on how they avoided 'curse' admitting 'my wife wouldn't tolerate it'
A Strictly Come Dancing legend revealed how he beat the dreaded show 'curse' - and why women just can't resist his pal Nigel Harman. Last year, Nigel's Casualty and EastEnders ' pal Charles Venn opened up about his time on the show in 2016 and the secret to why Nigel was the show's 'Mr Smooth'.
Charles said: "Ahh Nigel. What can I tell you. Everybody loves him. Nigel Harman is an absolute actual smoothie. He is good on the dance floor too. Very confident. He has brought a good quality to the show." Charles let fans into a secret about his pal from behind-the-scenes on Casualty, adding to the Mirror: "And here's something you might not know about him. He's got a nice voice. He used to sing a couple of songs off-set. He'd sing Indie but at the same time he'd also be singing The Doors. If the moment took him even some Oasis. We've got a couple of speakers, so whenever someone is playing a song, he'd sing right after it. That's what we love about Nigel."
Charles, who was also a hit on the show in 2018, also talked about how he avoided the 'infamous curse' dancing with professional partner Karen Hauer.

He shared: "The Strictly curse, I know it didn't hit me. Why? Because I focused. From the moment I got there it was just work, work, work. I can't speak for anybody else. But I was focused. I was just focused on the dancing. Solely. And my wife doesn't play. She wouldn't tolerate that for a moment. I love that."
Despite Charles cheering for Nigel to win last year, some viewers reckoned the dancer and his partner Katya Jones would not stay in the BBC show for long at the time.
Nigel and Katya danced a Rumba to Celine Dion's It's All Coming Back to Me Now. The stunning performance wowed the judges and viewers, but some fans were worried, with a few suggesting the show wanted them out.
The star admitted he'd been told he was "doomed" when he found out his routine for the upcoming week. And viewers noticed something about his position on the show and his latest dance style that made them worry for Nigel, just weeks before the final.
He mentioned this to host Claudia Winkleman, saying: "It's very difficult for the male celebrity, and pretty much you're doomed."
Fans said that Nigel was performing in "the death spot", the second to perform on the night. This is believed to be cursed, with fans saying those who perform second often get sent home.
However, Nigel's comments were echoed by several viewers, who accused the show of trying to get rid of the former EastEnders star. One fan posted on X: "They want Nigel out this week then... Rumba and the death slot," while another commented: "Nigel doing rumba in the death slot."
