Taking part in any game show to win money is always a risk, and this risk paid off for Matthew, who is from Merthyr Tydfil when he took part in ITV1's Deal or No Deal. Matthew, who is a former soldier, had PTSD and wanted to win money for the children's football team he coaches, called Valleys Football Academy, and to take his family on holiday.

He played a blinder of a game which had many emotional moments, including when deciding if to take the banker's offer. Matthew brought along his mother and father-in-law in the audience, with his father-in-law becoming very choked up and unable to speak when helping Matthew to decide if to take an offer of £21,190.

The host of the show Stephen Mulhern called Matthew's game "unbelievable" and chatted to his in-laws about whether he should accept the offer. His mother-in-law, Alison, encouraged Matthew to play on while his father-in-law, Michael, was too emotional to speak. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.

Alison said: "He deserves so much. He deserves... it is life-changing money for them." and Michael managed to say: "It's not the money... its just..." with Stephen filling in: "Just what he has gone through." At the start of the show, Matthew was very honest about his PTSD and said he wanted to prove to people that "there is light at the end of that tunnel".

Before asking Matthew for his decision Stephen said: "I have never seen such emotion in the Deal or No Deal, room, the audience, yeah, wow." Matthew decided not to accept the £21,190 offer and instead remained in the game.

He went on to accept the next off of £31,190 to the delight of his in-laws and many in the studio.
