If you were affected by a PlayStation glitch around Christmas time, you may have received, or be eligible to receive free credit on the PlayStation store.

The issue occurred in late December, when players were inexplicably unable to redeem PS Store vouchers or gift cards.

But Sony is dishing out almost a tenner in free store credit to those who were inconvenienced by the technical error. The gaming giant has been adding $10 (£7.90) in credit to the accounts of users who were affected by the PlayStation Store glitch.

Sony has notified users of this apology bonus through email, reported PlayStation LifeStyle.

The email reads: “We are aware that on December 24, 2024, a systems error resulted in users being unable to redeem voucher codes on the PlayStation Store, and we have identified your account as one impacted by this error.”

It’s unclear how many users were impacted by the IT issue, but some gamers have taken to Twitter to discuss the matter.

One user said: "Wait we received $10/€ of store credit for free because a problem with redeeming vouchers on PS store???"

Another user referred to a second recent PlayStation glitch, saying: "#PlayStationNetworkDown @PlayStation we deserve ps plus a free game some store credit something for this it’s a Friday night we haven’t been able to play all day".

A Reddit post was shared around the time of the issue last year where numerous users aired grievances about not being able to redeem PS Store gift cards.

And according to one comment, the problem lasted for several weeks.

Sony has yet to explain the cause of the December issue, or the most recent PSN outage, reported the London Evening Standard. But how can you tell if you received the compensation?

How to check if you received free PS Store credit

If you received the compensation credit, it should appear in your PS Store wallet.

Check the email account linked to your PlayStation ID to see if you were sent the apology message from Sony.

If you believe you are entitled to the store credit but have not received it, it's advised to reach out to PlayStation customer support.
