The New 197-Foot Superyacht Wants to Bring a Slice of Tuscany’s Sunny Vineyards to the Water

A new Damen superyacht has risen.

Named Solaia after a sun-soaked hill in Tuscany, the fifth hull in the Dutch builder’s limited-edition Amels 60 series was delivered to its owner late last week after first hitting the seas in February.

Featuring exteriors by renowned designer Espen Øino, interiors by Ukrainian studio Olt Design, and naval architecture by the Damen team, the 197-footer (a.k.a. Amels 6005) aims to embody the essence of slow living synonymous with Italy, even as it has a top speed of 15.5 knots and range of 4,500 nautical miles.

The exterior combines a custom charcoal hull and white superstructure with distinctive trapezoid windows and lengthened upper decks. The custom interior, meanwhile, draws inspiration from nature, with a rich terracotta palette and graphite shades evoking the Italian landscape and the sunny vineyards of Tuscany.

“While working on the interiors of the Amels 60, our goal was to create a cozy home on the water, infused with an atmosphere of unparalleled luxury,” Tetiana Oliinyk, founder and leading architect of Olt Design, said in a statement.

The studio spent over three years designing the living quarters, carefully selecting furnishings and finishes to create an elegant onboard environment. Rich eucalyptus, Macassar ebony, and Tanganyika veneers play against sleek onyx and marble, while warm ochre leather juxtaposes with shiny brass and chrome details. The studio says the natural materials provide a sense of grounding that contrasts with the surrounding marine environment.

With a beam of 34 feet and an interior volume of 853 GT, Solaia can comfortably accommodate up to 12 seafarers and 13 crew. The main deck is home to an owner’s suite with a large balcony, a full-beam en suite, and a walk-in closet, while the lower deck is outfitted with four guest suites.

Designed for entertaining, the yacht also features a spacious salon and a large dining area with wine fridges for prized bottles from Tuscany. The bridge deck offers a second salon with a piano, a bar, and a cinema, while the sundeck sports a Jacuzzi, a shaded dining area, a bar, an outdoor kitchen, and a grill. To top it off, the beach club is equipped with a swim platform, a sauna, and a garage for water toys. Two additional luxury tenders can be discreetly stored on the foredeck.

Since debuting in 2019, the Amels 60 Special Edition has grown in popularity. The first unit, named Come Together after the hit Beatles song, hit the seas in 2022. Damen then launched sisterships Khalidah and Entourage in 2023, before delivering Satemi in early 2024. Two more hulls are on the horizon, too. Stay tuned.
