I used to eschew eye cream based on a belief that it’s no different than regular anti-aging moisturizer. As it turns out, however, eye cream is often formulated specifically to treat the delicate, ultra-thin skin in the area—which is among the first to show signs of aging. Moreover, eye cream often contains brightening ingredients, the likes of which illuminate sullen, tired-looking skin.
In recent years, these truths have spurred my search for the perfect eye cream; one that, in addition to providing the aforementioned benefits, is gentle enough for my dry skin and lightweight enough to stave off milia. I may have found my holy grail in the Fermentation Bio Peptine Eye Cream from Korean skin care brand Swanicoco, which boasts a breezy formula that even milia-prone shoppers swear by. Per the brand, the eye cream has been purchased more than two million times—and it’s a mere $12 at Amazon thanks to an onsite coupon.
Swanicoco Fermentation Bio Peptine Eye Cream
The Swanicoco Fermentation Bio Peptine Eye Cream is an ultra-lightweight, anti-aging formula that smooths the appearance of fine lines, brightens shadowy under-eyes, and softens rough, dry texture. The formula is infused with a blend of potent-yet-gentle dermatologist-approved ingredients, each of which is supported by ample scientific research.
For instance, peptides—protiens known to trigger collagen production—are present. As studies have shown, peptides tighten aging skin, which is prone to laxity and, thus, crepiness. By proliferating skin-firming collagen, peptides produce firmer skin and fade the appearance of fine lines.
Additionally, the cream contains ginseng. The root, which is often found in Korean beauty products, has been shown to smooth fine lines and brighten hyperpigmentation—both of which benefit the thin, delicate skin beneath the eyes.
On a similar note, niacinamide also brightens thanks to its hyperpigmentation-fighting properties. In turn, the B vitamin transforms sallowness and yields a more well-rested under-eye area. As dermatologist Dr. Blair Murphy-Rose, M.D., previously confirmed to InStyle, niacinamide “has been shown to reverse and prevent signs of skin aging,” specifically by “brighten[ing]” the skin and “reduc[ing] hyperpigmentation.” Moreover, niacinamide is ideal for sensitive skin types in light of its soothing properties.
Finally, adenosine—a lesser-known anti-aging ingredient found in myriad Korean beauty products—decreases the appearance of deep-set wrinkles, particularly around the eye area, where crow’s feet crop up.
Anecdotal evidence for the eye cream’s effectiveness is equally enticing as its ingredient list. One fan said the formula “brightened and smoothed” their under-eyes in only three weeks. Similarly, another shopper said the cream “noticeably reduced [their] dark circles and fine lines” and made their under-eye area “much brighter and firmer.”
