Meghan Markle and Serena Williams may have just solidified their BFF status with a new hoodie seemingly inspired, at least in part, by the royal.
On Wednesday, the tennis champion unveiled the “Royal Duchess” hoodie from her fashion label, Serena.
Williams sported the cropped black hoodie on Instagram alongside Nicki Minaj. It features crimson piping along the sleeves and, in the same shade, the word “ROYAL” emblazoned across the chest.
The hoodie is described online as “designed by, and fit for, a queen,” and it’s also available in blue.
The word “queen” is a nod to Williams herself, who just dropped a new collaboration with Nike and Off-White aptly called the Queen Collection.
However, it’s hard to believe that Markle didn’t play some role in its inception.
Williams confirms that Markle does have the hoodie, so who knows, she might wear it out with Prince Harry one day. “I sent Meghan all of our ‘Royal’ tops and said, ‘It’s perfect for you. You’re a royal now,’” Williams joked during a JPMorgan Chase event in New York City on Tuesday, according to US Weekly.
“I said, ‘We designed it just for you,’ which wasn’t true, but we joke around together.'”
The Serena collection was launched shortly after Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding in May. It is a body-positive, size-inclusive fashion collection that embodies Williams’s multifaceted lifestyle as an athlete, mom, entrepreneur, and wife — a woman constantly on the go
“My designs are inspired by strong, sexy, sophisticated, sassy, sure, smart, stylish, silly, and spontaneous women who are living their best lives, or making it up as they go — kinda like me,” states Serena in her brand message online. The line is full of sporty athleisure separates and preppy varsity dresses, as well as silky slipdresses perfect for date nights.
