Scientists Find Link Between Fertility And Having Your Tonsils Or Appendix Out

When it comes to being able to pop out some sprogs, we, perhaps naively, thought the key lay in your reproductive system.
But a new study has found a link between fertility and whether or not you had your tonsils or appendix removed. Who comes up with this stuff?
Scientists at the University of Dundee, apparently. Researchers studied more than half a million British women of a similar age and background, of which 180,000 had their appendix, tonsils or both removed.

The study found that for every 100 pregnancies in women who’d not had either operation, there were 134 in women who’d had their appendix out, 149 in those who’d had their tonsils removed and 143 in the group who’d had both. Those who’d had an operation also became pregnant more quickly.
Scientists weren’t sure on the reasons behind the results but have guessed that it may be linked to the impact removing infected organs has on the immune system, which in turn impacts on reproduction.
Looks like those weeks eating only jelly and ice cream were worth it after all…
