Sarah Jessica Parker's exciting new role
The judges for the Booker Prize 2025 are announced, as the prize opens for submissions from publishers. Alongside chair Roddy Doyle and novelists Kiley Reid and Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, was an unexpected name: actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
The award-winning actor is perhaps not such a surprise if you happen to know about her life away from the stage. As well as starring in and executive producing the Sex And The City reboot And Just Like That, Sarah Jessica also found time in 2023 to launch her own literary imprint SJP Lit. It was set up in partnership with independent publisher Zando and publishes stories by underrepresented voices. Recent titles include They Dream in Gold by Mai Sennaar, Alina Grabowski’s Women and Children First, Elysha Chang’s A Quitter’s Paradise, and Coleman Hill, written by Kim Coleman Foote.
Gaby Wood, Chief Executive of the Booker Prize Foundation, said: "I have in recent months enjoyed sharing book recommendations with Sarah Jessica, who has passionately supported contemporary fiction for many years."
In her role as Booker Prize judge, Sarah Jessica will be tasked with helping to find the best work of long-form fiction by writers of any nationality, written in English and published in the UK and/or Ireland between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2025.
The ‘Booker Dozen’ of 12 or 13 books will be announced next July, with the shortlist of six books to follow in September. The winner of the Booker Prize 2025 will be announced in November, with the winner receiving £50,000, as well as the £2,500 awarded to each of the six shortlisted authors.
