'Safe to say Antalya might be dead' - TikTok user posts video of 'ghost town' resort

It's long been the destination of choice for Scots tourists thanks to its sunny climate and great value for money.

But there are fears that tourists have ditched Antalya in Turkey after a video showing it completely deserted was posted.

John Daly posted the video on his TikTok account, where he said that the resort was 'dead' and showed the empty beach.

It comes after visitors to the country have been reporting how quiet it is because of rising prices.

Reports last year told of many hotels being left empty as UK tourists opt for destinations like Greece because it is more affordable.

And while John was visiting in January, he seemed stunned at the lack of people in the usually busy resort, reports the Express.

In his clip he said: "So it is safe to say that Antalya might be dead. We're here in January, and it is a complete ghost town.

"We have got absolutely nothing going on. The hotel doesn't actually have anyone in so, if you do want to get away by yourself, it's probably the best way to go about it because it looks like a bomb has been dropped there. Honestly, there's nothing here - it's a complete ghost town."

Since the video was shared, it's been viewed thousands of times, and dozens of people were keen to comment too. Some seemed to think it was quiet because he was visiting in January, but others blamed rising prices.

One wrote: "Been to Turkey many times in recent years as it was cheaper than Greece, Italy etc. Since inflation went nuts over there, it's now too expensive. Egypt is my go-to country now - value for money."

Another said: "People saying 'because it's January/winter' aren't really bright. In the day it can still be comfortably warm and not all people like heat. Egypt can be around the same in January, and it's still busy."

A third also replied: "Antalya is a rip off now - £300 to £400 for a hotel. I stayed on the Palm in Dubai for that. Such a shame, really liked Antalya."

In the summer, tourists were also claiming Turkey was "dead" due to how expensive it's become to visit. At the time, one user, known slimwadie5, aired his astonishment at the inflation he'd witnessed over 12 months.

He said one speed boat company was charging an eye-watering £120 for a mere hour-long ride. He continued: "I went on a boat trip the other day, £20 it was, and that was alright - that was reasonable.

"I went to Burger King and it was £5 - that's cheap. I'm sat in this place now - for a burger it's £12. For a water it's £2 - it's becoming like London prices.

"My sister, and her little family, said they're not going to come back again, because they're just. I've seen some posts on here where people are saying, give it a few more years, and Turkey's going to be dead."
