Rylan Clark blasted by viewers over 'uncomfortable' treatment of mum on Celebrity Gogglebox
Viewers of Celebrity Gogglebox blasted Rylan Clark for seemingly patronising his mum Linda.
One of the nation's most cherished pairs, Rylan and his beloved mum Linda, have been a constant source of amusement for viewers since they joined the Channel 4 series in 2019.
Fans were ecstatic to learn that the mother-son duo would be reuniting on screen this summer after Linda hiatus when she suffered an unfortunate tumble whilst on holiday.
On her triumphant return to Celebrity Gogglebox this season, audiences hailed her as a "national treasure", but not all were impressed with their jovial back-and-forths.
Some viewers evidently took umbrage with how often the presenter would correct his mum, particularly over her accent when saying certain medication names.
A memorable moment from Friday's episode, 21 June, showcased Rylan and Linda in a playful debate about the meds needed for Linda's hay fever. With her son nitpicking at her pronunciation of the word 'antihistamine', he insisted she repeated it while they watched telly.
"I'm not stupid, so stop trying to make it sound like I am! " Linda retorted after her son picked at her attempt at the word. In reply, Rylan defended: "I'm not, I'm just trying to set you right. Antihistamine," reports the Mirror.
A vexed Linda countered: "But you knew what I was saying, didn't you?" This led hordes the fans flocking to X, previously known as Twitter, defending the much-loved small screen mum. As one viewer quipped: "Anyone else wish Rylan would stop humiliating his mum, mine would slap me if i kept doing it lol."
One person commented: "I agree. It's getting a bit excessive and it doesn't feel like it's nice for her," while another added: "Rylan never stops humiliating his poor mother. Why does she put up with it?"
However, some fans were quick to praise the bond between Rylan and his mum. "Love the relationship between Rylan and his mum. So nice to see Linda looking so well," one fan gushed.
Linda made a triumphant return to our screens this series after a horrific fall during a holiday in Marbella last year. The unfortunate incident resulted in a broken arm and leg, requiring surgery that was complicated by her Chron's disease.
Rylan arranged for a private jet to bring his mum back to the UK, joking at the time: "My first experience on a private jet was on a medical one, how's your luck."
Thankfully, Linda has since fully recovered, with Rylan sharing that he knew she was going to be alright when she asked about getting a new driveway as she came round from surgery.
Three months post-accident, Rylan shared an update on his mum's condition, revealing she was "hobbling around Lakeside (shopping centre), so she's very much back to normal."
Celebrity Gogglebox's stars have lifted the lid on how the show is filmed, including using 'fake' homes and being provided with takeaways.
