The Royal Variety Performance has returned for another year, with acts from all corners of the country taking to the stage with show-stopping performances. But one performance that had fans talking was by Britain's Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas, as many issued a complaint after watching the vocalist.

While the singer wowed with her vocals, many viewers slammed her choice of song as they claimed it was the wrong move. Taking to X, one fan shared: "Sydney Brill but sounded better on bgt singing that Annie song #RoyalVarietyPerformance." While a second echoed: "Eeesh, that song wasn’t right for her. Really didn’t showcase her voice as well as the ones she performed on BGT."

"Not a great choice of song for Sydnie Christmas," wrote a third. Another said: "What a terrible song Sydnie Christmas sang. What a letdown after her performances on BGT. Apologies if it is a well-known song - I didn’t know it." Another simply said: "Wrong song for our Sydnie." Despite the backlash, other fans appeared to love it, with one penning: "Sydnie Christmas singing on a show airing during Christmas is very appropriate." Another wrote: "Forgot how amazing sydnie is... wow."

While many were confused at the song choice, Sydnie actually performed her own new song, Believer, which is from her debut album, My Way, which was released in October.

Sharing a post to Instagram ahead of the variety show airing, Sydnie admitted that performing in front of King Charles was no easy task. She wrote: "Quite a mind-blowing, nerve-racking, pinch me, this can’t be a real experience, getting to perform for His Royal Highness and the country that I love, on the legendary Royal Albert Hall stage. Where some of the greatest artists and musicians have graced us with their presence."

Other than Sydnie's performance, King Charles III and the crowds at the Royal Albert Hall were treated to performances from a star-studded line-up including Sophie Ellis-Bexter, the cast of The Devil Wears Parada and Lorraine Kelly's Change and Check Choir led by Marti Pellow.

The show was hosted by Amanda Holden and Alan Carr, who recieved a mixed reception when the show kicked off. Taking to X to share their opinions, some weren't impressed, as one fan said: "Amanda Holden, no thanks #RoyalVarietyPerformance." A second added: "Dreadful presenters #RoyalVarietyPerformance." A third person said: "Well, Alan Carr and Amanda Holden are absolutely dreadful. This opening is so awkward. #RoyalVarietyPerformance."

However, others were impressed with the double act, with someone writing: "Alan Carr is hilarious. & Amanda Holden isn't looking too bad either." Another added: "Love Amanda and Alan together."
