All the royal family tributes to Prince Philip on his birthday
Break out the balloons and cut yourself a slice of cake - today is a very happy one in Windsor Castle as Prince Philip, Prince William and Prince Harry's grandfather, is celebrating a big birthday. The Duke of Edinburgh turned 99 today and in the newly established lockdown tradition, his royal family have shared their tributes to him through social media.
Up first, naturally, was the Queen herself (who Philip has been married to for over 70 years), via the official @TheRoyalFamily Instagram account, which proudly posts updates largely concerning Her Majesty and her sovereign husband (as well as tidbits about what the other senior family members are getting up to).
HRH didn't limit the celebrations to just one post either, a newly uncovered portrait of the happy couple was unveiled yesterday, along with the caption: "This new photograph of The Duke of Edinburgh and The Queen was taken last week in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle to mark His Royal Highness’s 99th birthday tomorrow."
The pair are seen in the grounds of their stately home, looking very dapper in pearls and a naval-inspired suit jacket, as a very summery blue sky is visible in the background.

Then, earlier this morning to mark the actual big day, the Royal Family account shared a touching series of throwback photos, showing the Queen and Philip over the years, ranging from when their own children were younguns to formal headshots of the Duke in naval uniform.
A sweet caption accompanied the collection of snaps too: "Wishing The Duke of Edinburgh a very happy birthday! His Royal Highness turns 99 today and will spend the day with The Queen at Windsor."

Over on @KensingtonRoyal, the official online source for Prince William and Kate Middleton, photos were shared of each of them with Philip, along with a suitably jolly birthday shout out.
