It’s that time of year again, when the Royal Family descend on Ascot racecourse in Berkshire.

Like any formal occasion, there’s plenty of pomp and pageantry as the Queen and the royals arrive via a horse-drawn carriage procession before the first race.

Her Majesty, 93, usually attends all five days of Royal Ascot and punters even make bets on what colour her outfit will be.

Day one of the annual fixture saw a big turn-out from the Royal Family, with plenty to talk about in the fashion stakes.

The Duchess of Cambridge debuted a new outfit from Elie Saab - a designer we haven’t seen her in before. If you want to copy Kate for a special occasion, we give you tips on how to get the look for less.

Blue also appeared to be the theme of day one, with the Queen, Zara Tindall, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie all sporting the hue.

And while they might be royal, they still have to adhere to a strict dress code within the Royal Enclosure, which does not permit dresses or tops that are strapless, off-the-shoulder or that have spaghetti straps.
