Roman Kemp reveals 'real reason' he quit Capital show after 10 years

Roman Kemp has shed light on the life-altering decision to leave his showbiz career behind, sharing that he's "got his life back", having finally left radio.

The 31 year old was a staple voice at Capital Breakfast on Capital FM for an impressive ten years until his exit this year, replaced by ex-Radio 1 DJ Jordan North.

In a recent candid chat, Roman disclosed how leaving greatly impacted his existence. Showing signs of relief, he quipped,"In a way, you get your life back. I went through a period of spinning too many plates and I think you come to a point where you want to know if your work is controlling you too much."

The star gave insight into the mental strain his demanding job placed on him, remarking: "My work was controlling my happiness. I had no time to work out what made me happy. I was working constantly."

After swapping radio for everyday life, Roman poured his heart out to The Sun: "It feels like I now have a world I never knew existed. It was so much fun, but you are in your own bubble."

He admitted the struggle of turning down potential projects but affirmed its importance stating, "It has been hard turning down work, but you have to make those decisions to get better and I know I had to for myself," reports the Mirror.

And he did ensure his departure wasn't a quiet one marking it with the deletion of a decade-old team Whatsapp chat he himself initiated.

With a cheeky grin, Roman revealed, "When I was at Capital, I was in control of the WhatsApp group. The day that I left, I was like, 'I am refusing to be ejected from this group'."

He amusingly added, "Instead, at 10.01am, when everyone was going, 'Well done', I secretly deleted the entire group. I blew up the WhatsApp group. I wasn't having it. I opened that group ten years ago . . . I was going to be the one to close it."

Reflecting on his time at Capital, Roman spoke fondly of his colleagues at Capital and Global, saying they became more than just coworkersthey were his "family".

He emotionally said: "Capital is my family, you as the wonderful listeners that you've been, you've been with me at my best times and my absolute lowest ... Capital and Global have helped change me. I was 22 years old when I first joined Capital and it's built me into the man that I am today, it is all that I know."

Since leaving Capital, Roman has returned to Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4, alongside his Spandau Ballet dad, Martin.
