Rupert is a Tory MP (who works as the sports minister), retired Olympic show jumper and a notorious womaniser, who comes up against Lord Tony Baddingham, the managing director of Corinium Televesion.
In the show, he's handling the breakdown of his marriage, following an affair with Sarah Stratton (played by Emily Atack), when he takes an interest in Taggie O'Hara (played by Bella Maclean.)

In real life, Alex is 44-years-old, and was born on the 7th September 1980 in Southend-on-Sea. He's the youngest of four siblings.
Who is Alex Hassell married to?
Alex is married to Emma King, who is also an actor and has starred in The Vanishing (2018), Dagr (2024) and The Isle (2018). The pair met at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and have been married for 13 years, tying the knot in January 2011.
They also starred in the sci-fi Netflix series Cowboy Bebop together, which came out in 2021.
