Richard Osman writing Thursday Murder Club movie in-joke in next book

Richard Osman has revealed that he's written an in-joke about The Thursday Murder Club movie into his next book in the series.
The House of Games host has just released We Solve Murders, the fourth book in the series, while the film version has wrapped shooting. Appearing on today's (September 21) Saturday Kitchen, he revealed that he's already sat down to write the fifth entry, and aspects of the film have started to seep into the writing.
"I've literally just started Thursday Murder Club 5 now," he told host Matt Tebbutt, "by which, I mean I've written 'Thursday Murder Club 5' on the top of the paper, which is half the job, to be honest!
"For about two minutes, because I love those characters so much, and they're absolutely in my heart, and you know, that's, that's where they come from.
"But literally, the first time, I was writing a scene with Ron, who's the Labour activist, and I had Pierce Brosnan in my head when I was writing just the first paragraph. And I went, 'Don't forget, that's not who he is. He's a person in your head'.
"So I had to, having spent the summer going down to set, I had to forget that Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie and Pierce Brosnan, you know, were [the cast]. I do a little bit, where Ron and Ibrahim start the scene talking about who their favourite Bond is. And Ron says, 'Oh, my favourite Bond is Pierce Brosnan'.
"And I told Pierce Brosnan about that, and yeah, he approved!"
While future books might include little jokes or references to the film, Osman insisted that he isn't going to push the filmmakers to include certain elements from the books.
"You have to trust good people, right, in your career all the time," he explained. "You trust good people, and so... I've handed it over to them."
The Thursday Murder Club film is due for cinema and Netflix release next year, while all four books are available to buy right now.
