Richard Osman says he's 'in awe' of Thursday Murder Club cast
Rightfully, we're all very excited about Richard Osman's smash hit book, The Thursday Murder Club, being turned into a film next year - and it turns out, so is Richard himself.
When Good Housekeeping spoke to Richard recently, he spoke of his excitement for seeing how the film is going to turn out, admitting that he's not been too involved but that he does like to hang out on set every once in a while.
And who can blame him? Steven Spielberg is producing, Harry Potter's Chris Columbus is in the director's chair, but the cherry on top is the stellar British cast - the best since Love Actually - that they've assembled to bring the story of the Coopers Chase Retirement Village gang to life. Dame Helen Mirren has been cast as former spy Elizabeth, Celia Imrie is former nurse Joyce, Pierce Brosnan is playing trades union official Ron and Sir Ben Kingsley is psychiatrist Ibrahim.
"I go down there [to the set] occasionally," Richard told Good Housekeeping. "I mean, I'm nothing to do with it, so I'm as interested as anyone else to see what it's going to be, how it's going to turn out. But the cast is wonderful, the director, Chris Columbus is wonderful, and the producer, Steven Spielberg is wonderful. So I feel like it's in good hands. But yeah, I go down occasionally and just sit and watch in awe at these actors."
He added: "I have no idea what's going to come out the other side of it, but I'm very, very excited to see."
Also joining the cast is Naomi Ackie, who's set to play police constable Donna de Freitas, Jonathan Pryce as Elizabeth's husband, Stephen, and Richard's actress wife, Ingrid Oliver, who's signed up to the role of Joyce's daughter Joanna.Rounding out the rest of the supporting cast is David Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Tom Ellis, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Geoff Bell, Paul Freeman and Sarah Niles.
We Solve Murders (Viking) the new series by Richard Osman, is out now.
