At least four of Fifth Avenue’s luxury apartment houses were designed by James E.R. Carpenter, a leading architect of some of New York City’s finest residential buildings in the early 1900s. One of his prewar edifices, which looms over the storied strip at 988 Fifth Avenue, was built in 1925 with just 12 apartments spread over 14 floors. Over the years, the elegant building has housed notable tenants like Watson B. Dickerman, the former president of the New York Stock Exchange, and now, a duplex penthouse at the storied address, available to rent fully furnished for $90,000 a month, could also make you neighbors with the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

An elevator opens into the home’s skylight-topped entry foyer, which leads to a corner living room with a double-sided fireplace shared with the primary bedroom. Walls of floor-to-ceiling glass slide open to a spacious wrap-around terrace with expansive park and city views, making you feel anchored in the heart of the Big Apple. The kitchen is fitted with stainless steel cabinetry and appliances and filled with natural light thanks to a large skylight, while the formal dining room will seat up to eight for a sit-down meal.
