Following what Humphries describes as the “bin fire of all break-ups”, she moved out of the west London home she shared with Walsh and in with friends to lay low for a while.

The couple dated for five years after meeting through work, and she has detailed in a new memoir Why Did You Stay? how their relationship was at times toxic.

She said: "If you’d met me [towards the end of the relationship] you wouldn’t recognise me now. I’m a completely different person.

"Anyone who has ever been in a relationship like that will know how much it drains, how tiring it is.”

Humphries adds: "When that happens over years you start to self-identify as crazy and unhinged in a way that no longer feels glamorous and passionate.

"It feels like you’re deteriorating and that you’re very lucky that someone loves you despite that.”

The actress – who has recently appeared in Amazon Prime series Ten Percent – shared that when she had challenged Walsh in the past about being unfaithful, he had branded her "psycho/nuts/mental”.

Of the "Strictly curse", the actress noted that it "puts an onus on something outside of these very human people’s control".
