Battleship is a strategy game played with two people on ruled grids, which can be either on paper or on a game board (yes, the life-size set up in Squid Games: The Challenge is not necessary!).

To begin, player's must mark where their fleets of warships (which are two to five squares in length on the grid) will go, which is kept secret from the other player.

Then, each player takes turns in 'shooting' at the other player's ships, to which the defender will respond with saying they've either been hit or their opponent has missed.

The aim of the game is to destroy all of their enemies fleet of ships by shooting correctly, and the winner is who takes down all of their opponent's ships first.
