Meet Scarlett, The Rescue Raccoon Preparing To Go Wild

Everyone say hi to Scarlett the Raccoon! This little fur baby is temporarily living with her human foster mother ahead of her rehabilitation back into the wild.

Scarlett was a just a tiny baby when she was discovered lying next to the lifeless body of her mother and siblings. Fortunately she was scooped up and rescued and now happily lives in foster care.

Her foster mother - who’s experienced in wildlife rehabilitation - has been documenting her progress on Instagram with regular photo and video updates.

On her feed, Scarlett’s foster mother explains: “Single rescued kits usually don’t make it through their first winter alone. Most if not all are kept for the first year of their lives and are released the following spring.”

It looks like Scarlett has a pretty sweet life - she’s certainly allowed special privileges!

It’s not hard to see why, she’s irresistibly cute.

We’re pretty sure most animal lovers would lose their minds if they found a baby raccoon mashed up at the end of their bed.

Along with the adorable picture timeline of young Scarlett’s life, her foster mother has added lots of interesting raccoon facts:

“Raccoons have scored very high on the mammal IQ level test. They are found to be more intelligent than cats! Raccoons have amazing skills of opening locks and closed doors.”

Hmmm…those jailbreaking skills might explain why they look like little masked bandits!

Scarlett is even pals with her foster-cat-sibling.

The little raccoon was rescued in May 2015. Her foster mother plans to release Scarlett this coming spring. “My house backs off onto a huge ravine, with lots of rivers and hide outs for her.”

Scarlett is being prepped for her release with regular walks in the area.

We hope many happy days lie ahead for this bright little spark.
