It’s 30 years since Have I Got News For You (HIGNFY) was first broadcast on our television screens.

On 28 September, 1990, the panel show made its first appearance on BBC2, and has been skewering those in the news agenda – and its own hosts and guests – ever since.

Captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton have spent three decades satirising the weekly news, alongside a revolving door of guests and guest presenters.

The show even soldiered on during the coronavirus lockdown, taking its gags out of the studio and on to remote video.

One of the most-loved segments of HIGNFY is its missing words round.

Compiled of headlines from daily newspapers – and some rather obscure guest publications – the missing words round almost always guarantees laughter.
