No one can deny The Queen is all about modernity, and it seems Her Majesty’s progressive sensibilities now even extend to her shoe closet.
Yesterday, at the historic Order of the Garter service, the 92-year-old rocked some fashion-forward footwear.
Under her traditional dress – which involved a grand velvet robe, glistening insignia and plumed hat – Her Maj rocked a metallic silver pair of Mary Jane block heels.
The on-trend choice was a step away from her general choice of black patent loafers.
But it didn’t stop there: ever the perfectionist, the Queen matched her silver shoes to a silver flap handbag that wouldn’t seem out of place on Kendall Jenner.
For anyone confused about the rest of Her Majesty’s outfit, it was all in honour of Order of the Garter.
The story goes that in medieval times, King Edward III was so inspired by tales of King Arthur and the chivalry of the Knights of the Round Table that he set up his own group of honourable knights, called the Order of the Garter.
Almost 700 years on, the Order is still going strong.
The annual iconic Garter Day procession sees the The Queen and the Knights process in their grand uniform at Windsor Castle, accompanied by a marching band and Officers of the Order, all in grand ceremonial dress.
