King Charles and Queen Camilla were guests of honour at a state banquet held at the Palace of Versailles as part of their three-day state visit to France.

The King and Queen were welcomed by President Macron and his wife, First Lady Macron, as they arrived at the historic palace on Wednesday night.

In a nod to her hosts, Queen Camilla wore dress by the iconic French fashion house, Dior. She looked stunning in the navy blue gown which featured a dramatic floor-length cape. To complement the striking design, she wore Queen Elizabeth II's diamond and sapphire necklace - the George VI Sapphire Necklace - with matching pendant earrings.

The royal couple were joined by 160 guests at the dinner, held in the palace's Hall of Mirrors. These included both British and French citizens who were chosen for their contribution to UK-France relations, with Rolling Stones star Sir Mick Jagger, actor Hugh Grant and former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger among those at the event.

A menu shared by the BBC shows they dined on blue lobster and crab cake with almonds and mint to start, followed by Bresse poultry with mushroom gratin, French and English cheeses and rose flavoured macarons with lychee cream and fresh raspberries.

The King and Queen's state visit began with a formal welcome at the Arc de Triomphe and a visit to the Elysee Palace. On day two of the trip, King Charles became the first British monarch to speak on the floor of the French Senate.

Speaking in both French and English, he highlighted the importance of the partnership forged between the two nations and thanked the French people for the tributes that were paid to his mother Queen Elizabeth when she passed away in September last year.
