When most celebrities discuss their skincare routines, they tend to shout out about pricey products that may very well leave them with a glow befitting a red carpet regular.

But Prue Leith has revealed a beauty regime that combines both function and affordability.

The Great British Bake Off judge, 80, has opened up about the contents of her bathroom cabinet, and it features the iconic Nivea Creme moisturiser that costs just £4.

Speaking to The Sunday Times' Style magazine, she said: "I really like Nivea. It smells clean and fresh, and [it] is absorbed fast."

The presenter and cookery writer gave an insight into her low-key mornings, explaining: "I spend two minutes: wash my face, slap on some moisturiser."

She admitted that she is a fan of Boots No 7 Intelligent Colour foundation, priced at £16.50, because it "goes on easily and you can see your skin through it".

The Bake Off judge also revealed that one of the BBC show's make-up artists taught her to ward off dry hands by applying oil before she goes to bed and sleeping in latex gloves.

She continued: "Next morning the rough bits are soft. If they’re badly chapped, keep the gloves on all day."

It comes after Nigella Lawson shared a similarly low-key overnight beauty hack for keeping her voluminous brunette locks bouncy.

The food writer, 60, revealed that she uses dry shampoo on her roots before bed for perfect morning hair.

In a column for The Sunday Times, the cookery star explained that the unlikely step means that “grime and grease” will disappear while you sleep.

She wrote: “Don’t spray on dry shampoo in the morning and then beat yourself about the head with your hairbrush trying to get it all out.

“Blast yourself with it before you go to bed and when you wake up in the morning it will have disappeared, taking the grime and grease with it.”

Lawson also shared her £20 product of choice, adding: “A basic, low-cost can of dry shampoo is more than adequate for the job (although I do love the smell of Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair).”
