Princess Diana's Revenge Dress Is Back, Courtesy Of Her Nieces
In June 1994, Princess Diana wore a black, off-the-shoulder gown designed by Christina Stambolian to a dinner at London's Serpentine Gallery. Wearing it on the same night that her then-husband admitted to infidelity on national television, Diana singlehandedly created a sartorial category that has lived in the collective consciousness ever since: revenge dressing.
Last night, Diana's twin nieces Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer paid homage – knowingly or unintentionally – to their aunt's most iconic look at The Fashion Awards 2024. Held on December 3 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the red carpet of this most glitzy event was studded with stars, but the twin sisters delivered one of the most striking looks of the night.

As well as nodding to the late princess, the twins' co-ordinating looks were a testament to the timeless power of an off-the-shoulder black dress paired with plenty of diamonds. While Diana paired her ruched dress with sheer tights and pointed pumps, the sisters opted for full-length, floor-sweeping styles.
Amelia's gown was from Pamella Roland's Resort 2025 collection, featuring subtle beading along the plunging neckline. Eliza's matching gown was by Gaurav Gupta (also responsible for Nicola Coughlan's regal Fashion Awards dress), with subtly draped sleeves and intricate detailing on the bodice.
Both sisters completed their looks with a constellation of glittering jewels by Sartoro Genève, displayed perfectly by sleek, simple updos. Whether or not their homage was intentional, it was a welcome reminder that you don't need to be scorned to embrace the power of revenge dressing.
